Stella Achen is a Policy Communications Fellow 2019-2020. Population Reference Bureau (PRB) together with African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) are training 12 fellows from developing countries on policy communication. The summer school for this year was in Lilongwe, Malawi from 5th -13th June 2019.
The training was on Policy Communication. It focused on how to communicate research evidence to policy makers in simple and understandable language to effect change.
Frequently researchers conduct research in isolation from policy makers the consequence is evidence remains hidden in journals and books because policy makers cannot understand the complicated academic language and jargon researchers use. Thisresult is research evidence not being used to inform policy.
