Partnership – Building Workshop Between Makerere University and Open University –UK

On 28th May2019, the Institute of Open Distance and eLearning through its academic staff Dr. Harriet Nabushawo hosted a workshop organised by IODeL in liaison with the Open University of UK.  The event took place at School of Distance and Lifelong Learning AVU conference facility.

The event was graced by the Principal College of Education and External Studies Prof. F. Masagazi Masaazi who opened the workshop. 

The workshop was attended by all stakeholders including Dr. Charles Mbalyohere from Open University UK who talked about Open Impact conference proposal

The Institute of Open Distance and eLearning has received an invitation from Open University of UK and the Association of Commonwealth Universities to seeking Partnership in the following areas

1. Being a co-host to a conference scheduled for 13th – 14th December 2019 in Kampala, Uganda, Entitled OPEN IMPACT CONFERENCE 2019. The theme of the conference is:  Extending the frontier of  access to higher Education in Africa: strategies for leveraging Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Programmes

2. Being a Co-applicant to a proposal to host the 10th Pan-Commonwealth Forum (PCF10) on open learning in 2022.  If you Uganda Succeeds in this bid, this would be the third this important conference is hosted on the African soil; following 2002 in South Africa and  2013 in Nigeria

3. Collaboration with staff at the Institute on the Study on the International  ODL for effective Integration  in Higher Education (HE) of dual mode delivery for improved employability and entrepreneurship in African New Frontier Markets

Therefore the workshop was organised to deliberate on the above mentioned activities.

At the workshop, the Director, Makerere University Institute of Open Distance and elearning Assoc. Prof. Jessica Norah Aguti, in her introductory remarks, she pointed out the purpose of the workshop while the Deputy Principal College of Education and External Studies Asoc. Prof. Paul Birevu Muyinda  presented on sketching the potential benefits of a strategic partnership between Makerere University and Open University, UK
