The end of first Pedagogical Skills Training for Assistant Lectures at Makerere University

On Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th July,2018  in the Telecentre level 2 senate building, College of Education and External Studies through the EASHESD in partnership with CTLS and drawing on technical support from the SOE  embarked on pedagogical skills training for assistant lecturers in Makerere university. The colleges of COBAMS, CONAS and COCIS were the first beneficiaries of this training Workshop which was officially opened by the university vice chancellor prof. Banabas Nawangwe who was represented by prof. Eria Hisali, COBAMS.This initiative followed a request from the Directorate of Human Resources, Makerere University on the same training for the next nine months to get all colleges covered.

The importance of this training is that universities are regarded as institutions providing the highest level of training and therefore it will equip lecturers with skills to carry out this role through sharing teaching experiences and highlighting areas of improvement.

The workshop was graced with various facilitators and topics of presentation included Higher Education; its environment and dynamics by Dr. Ronald Bisaso and Dr. Euzobia Baine Mugisha, learning theories, styles and the changing philosophy of learning by Dr.ezati Betty, Dr. Joseph Kimoga, and Dr.Stella Amero, learning goals and learning outcomes by Dr. Proscovia N. Ssentamu for day one of the workshop.

The second day of the workshop had curriculum design and development: theories, models and practices by Dr. Proscovia N. Ssentamu, pedagogical design by Dr.David Kabugo, Prof.C.B.Mugimu, Dr. Joseph Kimoga and Dr.Ronald Bisaso, assessment of and for learning by Dr.Ezati Betty and Dr.Hilary Mukwenda. On the final day of the workshop Dr.Ezati Betty and Dr.David Onen presented on student support while Dr.Michael Walimbwa and Dr. David Kabugo presented on the technologies for improved teaching and learning

In the final remarks the principal CEES, prof.Masagazi Masaazi appreciated the College of Education and External Studies and the Directorate of Human Resource and argued lecturers to take this training serious to be experts in teacher training for Higher Education. Mr. Andrew Abunyang appreciated the colleges for participating and his team for according their support and participation.

The deputy vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ernest Okello Ogwang Commended this training as important and argued assistant lecturers to use the available resources .The first session for the Pedagogical Skills Training for Assistant Lecturers at Mak was officially closed by Prof. Ernest Okello Ogwang on 25th July 2018 with the awarding of certificates to the participants.
