MAKCEES Exhibits at Ministry of Education and Sports Teacher’s Symposium

On 10th – 12th December 2018, the College of Education and External Studies participated in the Ministry of Education and Sports Teacher’s Symposium exhibition that was held at Kyambogo University in Uganda.   The Symposium was almost a collection of all institutions in Uganda that train teachers.

The teacher’s Symposium was officially opened by the State Minister for Higher Education Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo on 10th December 2018 and closed by the state Minister for Primary Education Hon. RoseMary Nansubuga Seninde on 11th December 2018.

Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo who was representing the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni stressed that some of the key challenges to teacher training among others are inadequate training teacher educators, inadequate resources both human and others, poor management of teacher training institutions , poor mentorship or non at for young tutors or lecturers , professional ethics , teacher educators have low self esteem and at times do not introduce themselves thus , poverty , teacher trainees are not inspired by their trainers etc

Hon. RoseMary Nansubuga Seninde in her closing remarks said that she is proud to be a teacher and said that the teaching profession is a calling from God.  She reminded teachers to the teacher the associate or a student should admire in terms of discipline and self respect.  Hon. RoseMary Nansubuga Seninde revealed during the Teacher’s Symposium that she joined a teaching profession because she wanted to like her teacher

In the second session, there was a paper presentation on teacher education policy, teacher incentive framework, teacher social dialogue by Associate Professor Joseph Oonyu (PhD) from School of Education Makerere University.  This session was chaired by Associate Professor of Philosophy of Education from School of Education Makerere University.

Mr. Muyinda, the Commissioner in the Ministry of Education revealed that a new Teachers Management Information System has been put in place and that Teachers can now register in the comfort of their homes by just visiting in the Teachers Management Information System. It can accessed on this link:  https://www.tmis.go.ug/. It was also noted that all teachers in the country will have to register with this Teacher Management Information System including those that had registered before the system was put in place
