Taking Makerere University to the Community through Love Binti Project

In an effort to take the university to the people with the aim of equipping individuals with sustainable and tangible skills, Makerere University, through the school of Distance and Lifelong Learning, in conjunction with Love Binti, designed a training program in Tailoring, Entrepreneurship and Health Education Skills

Makerere University through its College of Education and External Studies, School of Distances and Lifelong Learning held its 3rd Love Binti Graduation Ceremony on On 26th July, 2019 at CCE Gardens from 9:00am to 1:00pm

The event was presided over the Dean, School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Dr. Alex Okot who that thanked all the chairperson local councils for cooperating with Makerere University in implementing the love Bint Project. He welcomed also grandaunts, Parents, husbands, Director of Love Binti and the team from Taiwan, Project Coordinator Mr. Watuleke Joseph, staff Members and Chair Department of Adult and Community Education, Love Binti Director,  president to Rotary International our partner

He told the community that Makerere University does teaching and Learning, Research and Community Engagement.  He stressed that entrepreneurial skills are very important and from student exhibitions, he was happy that graduants are already using the entrepreneurial

All graduants were able to show case what they learnt during the training, most of them had learnt how mend clothes and some were utilising the skills acquired in an entrepreneurial way and helping  financially disadvantaged girls in their communities, slam communities and schools

This program has been running for the last one year and, proudly passed the group of students that comprised mainly a few boys, girls and women from the communities neighbouring Makerere University. The communities included Kasubi and Kagugube Communities

The Local Council Chairperson attended the event and he thanked Makerere University and Love Binti for helping the love child. He pledged to work with Love Binti project up to the end. He applauded the Taiwan People for loving the communities in Uganda. He also reported that he has been inviting Makerere staff working with love Bint to talk to the community during the Love Community Meeting. He urged graduands to use the skills attained during training very well
