H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni graces Mak at 69th graduation Ceremony 2019

Makerere of University College of Education and External Studies presented its graduands on the first day Tuesday 15th January 2019. The event was graced with His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and Visitor of Makerere University who was recognised for his outstanding scholarly  contribution by  authoring the first ever Thesaurus in the sub-Saharan region, that is written in an indigenous African language titled  Katondoozi: A Thesaurus of Runyankore-Rukiga. The event was also graced by the First Lady, and Hon. Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni

The Chancellor of Makerere University, Professor Ezra Suruma warmly applauded our graduates in education stressing that their noble profession is at the heart of redefining the way we receive and share knowledge.  He also asked our graduates to be a moral light to our children so that they will see their good behavior and knowledge and emulate them informing a tradition of trust and integrity that Uganda needs desperately

In his speech, the vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof Barnabas Nawangwe reported that the University Management is continuing to lay a firm foundation for moving Makerere closer to the communities. He revealed that on 17th December 2018, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Makerere University with Rev. Canon Johnson Twinomujuni, Bishop of the West Ankole Diocese. This MoU will lay a firm foundation for moving Makerere closer to the communities in Western Uganda through the proposed Makerere University learning center at Katungu-Bushenyi, under the College of Education and External Studies. He thanked the Church of Uganda and the West Ankole Diocese in particular for partnering with Makerere University in this endeavour and look forward to the approval from National Council for Higher Education so that we are able to start operations this year.

Prof Barnabas Nawangwe also welcomed the delegation from Mount Kenya University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stanley Waudo, with whom Makerere University signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in research and training on 14th January 2019

The vice Chancellor gave a final word to graduands by reminded them that they entered the gates of Makerere University with a purpose. That purpose was to give a contribution to your nation through making yourselves and your families and communities better.  He also wished to graduands a fare thee well and not to forget the gates of Makerere, your Alma Mater.

The Principal College of Education and External Studies Professor Fred Masagazi Masaazi thanks all staff who contributed and Participated in graduation ceremony of 15th January 2019 in various ways for the job well done. He noted that the Vice Chancellors speech pointed on Makerere University learning center at Katungu-Bushenyi as well as MOU between Makerere University and Mount Kenya University, this manifests Makerere University recognition of our efforts and mandate as College of Education and External Studies
