Collaboration: CEES and UWE discuss innovative teaching, research, education and mobility On 20th October 2025, Makerere University College of Education and External Studies hosted a delegation from the University of the West England to discuss research and collaboration.
At the College of Education and External Studies, the delegation led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of the West England, Ms. Jo Midgley, was received by the College Principal, Prof. Anthony Muwagga Mugagga.

Financial growth comes from savings, investments, entrepreneurship and innovation. Those who invest collectively in ventures, saving clubs or small businesses, pool resources for projects, and often live comfortably and educate their children with ease,” said Mr. Sulaiman Kiggundu, the Director-Budget Office at the Parliament of Uganda, during a guest lecture at Makerere University.

Secondary School Administrators Urged to Champion Competency-Based Curriculum in Science Subjects Makerere University’s College of Education and External Studies (CEES), through its Department of Science, Technology, and Vocational Education (DSTVE), on Friday 18th July 2025, hosted a high-level workshop for secondary school administrators focused on the implementation and assessment of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in science subjects.

Mak CEES discusses partnership with King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language On 17th June 2025, the Principal of the College of Education and External Studies at Makerere University, Prof. Anthony Muwagga Mugagga hosted a meeting with Dr. Hanan Al Malki, the Director of Program and Centre Planning and Management at the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, aimed at building institutionalized partnerships in language education in Uganda and globally.

Phase 1 of the e-Learning initiative at Makerere University registers remarkable achievements On Thursday 24th April 2025, the Director of the Institute of Open, Distance and E-learning under the College of Education and External Studies presented the dissemination results of phase 1 of the e-Learning initiative at Makerere University to over 75 participants and key stakeholders.

MakCEES develops an Entrepreneurial Leadership Initiative for UPE Schools School Managers have been urged to incorporate entrepreneurship as an innovative solution aimed at addressing the existing problems in Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools.
Studies indicate that in most UPE Schools in Uganda, learners still lack parental support, mid-day meals, scholastic materials, clean water, and are often unattended to by teachers, which undermines children’s desire to learn or stay in school because hunger impairs their ability to concentrate and learn effectively.

CEES Holds Open Day and Skills Expo to Empower Future Educators Several students from the College of Education and External Studies (CEES) at Makerere University have showcased different innovations that can be used to train learners in the new competence-based curriculum that has been rolled out across different levels of learning.
These student innovations were presented during the CEES Open Day and Skills Expo held on Friday 14th March 2025 at Makerere University Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility Auditorium under the theme: “Empowering Future Educators Through Skills and Innovation for National Prosperity.

Makerere University Hosts 3rd East African Teacher Education Symposium: A Regional Call to Decolonize and Re-imagine Education In a continued effort to champion regional dialogue on educational transformation, Makerere University, together with its partners under the Capacity Building for Research-Based Teacher Education (CABUTE) project hosted the 3rd East African Teacher Education Symposium (EATES) from 9th to 10th April 2025, under the theme “Curriculum Development and Decolonization of Education in East Africa.”

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Makerere University College of Education and External Studies website. The College was formed following the merger of the School of Education and the Institute of Adult and Continuing Education, and now has three Schools and two Centres. These are: School of Distance and Lifelong Learning, School of Education, East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development, Centre for Teaching and Learning Support and Centre for Lifelong Learning.
