Deputy Principal MAKCEES addresses MIDT students at a briefing session

 

On 19th August 2019, the Institute of Open Distance and eLearning conducted the orientation session for Online Master of Instructional Design and Technology. The event took place at School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Multimedia Conference Facility.

The event was graced by the College Deputy Principal, Associate Professor Paul Berivu Muyinda who briefed student about the benefit of the course. He informed the newly admitted students that the course has opportunities for scholarships for those bright students. He urged students to work hard, he further said that the scholarship does not only end at master’s level but if one excels to the expected performance, scholarship to a PhD level is available in the field of Instructional Design and Technology

The College Deputy Principal also stressed that the online Master of Instructional Design and Technology is the only online course at the College of Education and External studies and at Makerere University in general. He said that after completing this programme one can register as a teacher in the Ministry of Education and Sports for those who may want to join the noble teaching profession

He pointed out that teaching and learning in the 21st century has changed from learners sitting in rows and columns enclosed in walls, to learning anywhere, anytime with the support of real-time technologies. The way education is designed and delivered is equally changing, especially as students who are digital natives continue to join the education system, access to digital tools at home and workplaces improves, and the global knowledge economy emerges.

Technology has opened up new models of learning, new channels of sharing knowledge instantly, and new techniques of teaching that call for trainers to respond accordingly. Teaching now demands that teachers develop educational materials in digital form, share new skills with peers online, and interact with their learners in new and innovative ways.

He said that the college of Education and External Studies has enough qualified staff to take Online Master of Instructional Design and Technology students throughout the course. He also said that those who will be serious with studies will complete on time because college has built capacity in open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) at PhD level. Therefore Online Master of Instructional Design and Technology has created opportunity for the College and University in general to effectively utilise this human resource.

The briefing session was also attended by the Dean School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Dr. Alex Okot, the Director Institute of Open Distance and eLearning Associate Professor Jessica Norah Aguti, Ag Chair, Department of Adult and Community Education Mr. Abert Tumwebaze and Programme Coordinator for Master of Instructional Design and Technology Dr. Harriet Nabushawo

This team made sure that students are briefed about important key facilities in the university as well as well registration, enrolment process and fees payment policy. It was also moment for students to meet University staff and have they queries answered and prepare them start the master’s study journey
