CEES conduct a Grants Writing – Training of Trainers Workshop through DELP Project

The College of Education and External Studies received funds to support various institutional development activities through the DELP Project. One of the activities to be supported is training in writing winning grants proposal.

On 24th and 26 August 2019, College of Education and External Studies, School of Distance and Lifelong learning and its Institute of Open Distance and e-Learning conducted a Grants Writing – Training of Trainers Workshop through DELP Project where participants were drawn from different academic and administrative units at the college including, College Principal’s Office, School of Education, East African School For Higher Education Studies and Development, School of Distance and Lifelong Learning, Center for Teaching and Learning Support, Institute of Educational Research, Center for Lifelong Learning and College Communication Office

Grants Writing – Training of Trainers Workshop was funding by DELP Project and it took place at School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Multimedia Conference Facility.

The Conference was graced the College Deputy Principal, Associate Professor Paul Birevu Muyinda. He extended his deepest appreciation to NORAD under the DELP Project for funding the two day training.  He also said that DELP's work is to ignite the research fire in the College of Education and External Studies and add to a pool of research work at Makerere University in general.

He also pledged that the AVU/DELP Conference Room will remain open for those wishing to write from there.  He also used the platform to thank the Principal, College of Education and External Studies Prof Fred Masagazi Masaazi for his wise leadership that is letting college teaching to increasingly become a solid research team.

On 24th August, 2018 Dr. Roy Mayega from School of Public Health and Dr. Sam Siminyu from School Distance and Lifelong Learning animated the workshop. The workshop participants were very active. The participants’ ideas were all upbeat. The brilliant ideas were generated during the training will result into forming a formidable research force at College of Education and External Studies

The second day of the workshop was chaired by Professor Anthony Muwagga Mugagga, the Director Makerere Institute of Education Research On 26th August 2019.  He stressed that the purpose of a Grants Writing – Training of Trainers Workshop was for those who were trained to train others in the different departments where they come from. He cited the book of God “ As it's said in the Bible "give to others what you have been given free of charge" He used the opportunity to thank the College Principal Prof. Fred Masagazi Masaazi and his Deputy Assoc. Prof Paul Birevu Muyinda for the facilitation in all its nature.

Dr. Richard Edema, the Director Makerere Regional Centre for Crop Improvement (MaRCCI) presented on building a successful research partnership. His insightful presentation pointed at communication among other important factors to consider while building a successful research partnership.

He stressed that ensuring effective communication with all interested parties is very vital for example researchers, partners, general public etc. He also said that developing of common tools for information sharing with stakeholders as well as with greater audiences is very important while building a successful research partnership. He cited a few communication tools like Websites, web portals and social media networking websites like Facebook, whatsApp, Twitter, Second Life

Best Practices in Building Partnerships were highlighted as communication, Governance structures, Stakeholder involvement and Training opportunities
