The new Makerere University College of Education and External Studies Student Association cabinet has been sworn in.
Witnessing the event on behalf of the MUCEESA Patron/Principal CEES Dr Fred Masagazi was the Deputy Principal CEES, Dr Anthony Mugagga.
In his remarks to the students, Dr Mugagga emphasised the need to balance student leadership duties with academic excellence. “Always put God first in everything. Do not allow student leadership to compromise the quality of your degree. You have to attend lectures, submit your course work assignments and excel in your exams,” he said.
Dr. Mugagga encouraged the students to build their networks and diversify their skills in order to succeed in the job market and in life. He also encouraged them to avoid risky behaviour and to uphold African values.
Mr. Apollo Mulondo took the oath as President of MUCEESA followed by the other cabinet members.
Whilst addressing his cabinet, Mr Mulondo observed that they had a short term in office and pledged to lead the students in a consultative manner. “Ours is a unique case because we have half a year in office, but we have the opportunity to do something substantial for the College. We shall organise programs such as sports galas and dialogues to socialise our students,” he said. He noted the requirement to register MUCEESA with the University Guild and the urgent need to review the association’s constitution.
In attendance was the former MUCEESA President Ms Josephine, GRC of the School of Education, Mr Basil Motta and GRC School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Mr George Adupa.
