The College of Education and External Studies with the support of UNICEF Uganda held the National Dialogue on Early Childhood Care and Education.
Theme: Taking Early Childhood Education, Care and Development seriously in Uganda on Friday 18th December 2015 between 9.00am – 4:00pm in Makerere University Main hall
Issues that were discussed include;
- Early Childhood Development (ECD) policies
- Governance and Management at a broader perspective,
- Pedagogical interventions
- Innovations and approaches for reaching out to children aged 0-3 years and 3- 5 years
- Creating a meaningful and sustainable data base on ECD in the country
- Advocating for an ECD integrated approach in university/ higher education where all students are trained on parenting and early childhood education
The discussion led to recommendations for a comprehensive integrated approach on our role and in particular the parents (who are the 1st caregivers), the caregivers at centre levels and schools, the medical and social workers, and the role of public and private universities in ECD.
