Makerere report says university should teach only sciences and post graduate courses

The report by the Makerere University Visitation Committee has recommended radical measures in the way the university is run including limiting Uganda’s oldest and most prominent public university to only offering science courses at degree level and graduate degrees (master’s degrees and PhDs).

KIRUHURA - The Makerere University visitation committee has recommended increasing of tuition fees, in a report submitted to President Yoweri Museveni.

The committee also wants the oldest public university in Uganda turned into a sole university. In its report, it also recommends that the current Government and State House scholarships are phased out and consolidated into the existing loan scheme.

The recommendations are contained in a report that was presented to the President by the interim committee chairperson, Lady Justice Ketrah Katunguka.
