Makerere University, DVV International Reaffirm Partnership in Adult and Community Education

26th February 2026 -The Principal, College of Education and External Studies (CEES), Prof. Anthony Mugagga Muwagga, received a delegation from DVV International on a courtesy visit to Makerere University.

The delegation comprised the Regional Director for Eastern Africa, Ms. Frauke Heinze (Dar es Salaam), the Senior Desk Officer, Ms. Aminata Tamboura (Bonn, Germany), and the Uganda Country Director, Mr. Caesar Kyebakola.

The meeting, held at the College and attended by the Dean, School of Distance and Lifelong Learning, Dr. Harriet Nabushawo, the Ag. Chair, Department of Adult and Community Education, Dr. Joseph Watuleke, the outgoing Chair, Dr. Stella Achen, and the Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Dianah Nampijja, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Makerere University and DVV International, particularly through the Department of Adult and Community Education.

Discussions reviewed ongoing collaboration on the edited volume Contemporary Issues in Adult Education and the professional development of adult educators through the Curriculum GlobALE framework, while also exploring opportunities to strengthen staff capacity through research, publications, and community outreach.

The DVV International delegation later engaged with the leadership of the Department of Adult and Community Education, with discussions focusing on strengthening student internship training as part of efforts to promote the professionalisation of adult education and lifelong learning.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen institutional collaboration, enhance academic and professional capacity, and advance the role of adult and community education in addressing societal development challenges in Uganda and the wider region.
