Launching Golden Key International Honour Society (GKIHS) Uganda

 

The interim members of GKIHS will on Tuesday November 8, 2011, organize a half day seminar to sensitize fresh students pursuing Diploma in Project Planning and Management at the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning (SoDLL), College of Education and External Studies (CEES). The seminar shall take place in SoDLL Lecture Theatre from 2.00 – 4.45 pm and shall be open to any interested fresh student in CEES. Amongst others, the discussion in the seminar will focus on:

  •  How to choose courses/programmes in the University, 
  • Accessing University services and facilities
  • Computation of grade point averages (GPAs) and understanding credit accumulation and transfer processes
  • Life at Campus (both on and off campus)
  • The role of GKIHS in mentoring students for academic excellence, good leadership and community service

The seminar is expected to contribute towards reducing the high dropout rates among PPM students, build confidence in student to complete their chosen courses and help students understand the computation of GPAs. Speakers in the seminar shall include: the Deputy Principal, CEES, Assoc. Prof. Jessica Aguti, the Head of the Department of Adult and Community Education (DACE), Dr. Charles Owenza, the National Coordinator, Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL), Dr. Willy Ngaka and other academic staff from SoDLL.

GKIHS is an academic honour society which works to promote recognition of students’ academic excellency, leadership skills development and voluntary service to the community. The process of Chartering Makerere University into this Honour Society commenced in August 2011 and the official launch of the organization is expected to take place towards the end of 2011.
