Invitation to the Second International Conference on History Education in Africa

The Department of Humanities and Language Education, Makerere University College of Education and External Studies and the African Association for History Education (AHE-Afrika) − based in the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria in collaboration with the International Research Association for History and Social Sciences Education  have organized a  Second International Conference on History Education in Africa.

Ranking and Internationalization in Higher Education

Makerere University represented by the College of Education and External Studies in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences, Osnabruck held a public forum on Higher Education on 8th November 2017 from 8.30 am to 12: 00 pm in Makerere University main Hall. The theme of the forum was “Ranking and Internationalization in Higher Education – New Developments and Implications for African Universities” 

Dr Anthony Mugagga Muwagga, Associate Professor appointed Director Institute for Education Research

The  Institute for Education Research is now established with a mandate to develop and equip researchers with the requisite skills for conducting  research in the field of education so as to inform policy and practice at national and international level. Associate Anthony Mugagga Muwagga (PhD) has been Appointed Acting Director of the institute.

Makerere University to start training teachers of Chinese Language

The Department  of Humanities and Language Education, School of Education, successfully negotiated with Hanban Headquarters, China and the Confucius Institute, Makerere University to start training teachers of Chinese Language 

Associate Professor, Mulumba Mathias Bwanika, the department chair was offered an opportunity to benchmark Chinese language teacher preparation in several universities in China. He is currently in Xiangan University, Hunan Province.

TESSA-MOOC on Future Learn workshop

On 25th October 2017, DSTVE held TESSA (Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa) workshop under TESSA Project.  The theme of the workshop was “Making Teacher Education Relevant for 21st Century Africa”.   In attaining the above, an online course has been introduced to help teacher’s use active learning and ICT in the classroom. The online course will start on Monday30th October 2017 and it will take 4 weeks. TESSA-Africa is an initiative of the Open University of UK that is sponsoring a four weeks online course on interactive teaching

DSTVE wins CEES Football Competitions

The College of Education and External Studies student Association organised a sports competition on 25th October 2017, Students from all departments in the college participated. The stiff competition was between Bachelor of Science with Education team and Bachelor of Arts with Education team but finally Bachelor of Science with Education team emerged the winner.

New Vice Chancellor Makerere University visits College of Education and External Studies (CEES)

The newly appointed Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe visited the college of Education and External Studies (CEES) on 20th October 2017. He was accompanied by Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) Professor William Bazeyo and the University Management Team

College of Education and External Studies gets Multimedia Studio

With support from NORAD (NORHED), the College of Education and External Studies has been able to revamp the former AVU Viewing and Studio Rooms into the DELP Video Conferencing Studio and DELP Multimedia Studio respectively.  

Handover of newly refurbished Lumumba Teaching and Office Space

 

On 14 September 2017, the contractor handed over the newly refurbished Lumumba teaching space to CEES Management. The teaching space can accommodate  close to 300 students and it also has some office space.
