Makerere starts search for new college heads

Makerere University has started searching for new school and college heads after the two-year tenure of the current office holders expired. The process will see the election of more than 20 administrators and lecturers.

Two committees of five and four members each have already been established to handle different colleges/schools. According to the proposed two-month plan of both committees, the selection of candidates was due December 18 which is at least two weeks earlier to the deadline for submission of application January 4.

Like the Vice Chancellor search committee, the two committees, which are yet to choose their chairpersons, will be tasked to identify a minimum of three and a maximum of five suitable candidates on both levels to colleges for voting.

Eligible voters
All permanent academic staff in established positions of assistant lecturer, two representative students in academic board, a representative of administrative staff on the administrative board and two technical staff representatives are eligible to vote at college level.

The officials are supposed to be elected by January 21 next year. Some of the candidates running include Prof. Steven Nyanzi for the College of Natural Sciences, Dr Lukoko Byaruhanga- College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dr Fred Masagazi Masaazi of the School of Education and External Studies.
